Uninsured Services

The Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan pays for many of the services you receive from your doctor. However, a number of services are not covered. These are uninsured services. Some are billed to lawyers, your insurance company, government agencies or others. Some are billed to you.

The following is a sample of uninsured services for which your clinic may bill you: Insurance forms, private letters/forms such as sick notes for school or work, letters/examinations requested by outside parties (lawyer, employer etc.) who indicate you are responsible for payment, transfer of your medical records to a new doctor, certain uninsured procedures (e.g. circumcisions, disabled parking placards).

In addition to office materials and use of facilities, these services require the time, expertise and professional opinion of doctor and staff. As a result, you or the third party will be billed a fee to cover these costs.

If you have any insurance or government forms for doctors to fill out, please make sure you have filled out the patient's section of the form, including signing the consent to allow the doctor to share your personal medical information, then leave the form at the front desk for follow-through.

It usually takes five to ten days for completion. If you need it more quickly, please let front desk staff know why and we will attempt to get the work done sooner.

Cash, cheques, major credit and debit cards are accepted. Payment (submitted at the front desk) will be expected when you receive the service. (In some cases, we will ask for payment prior to providing the service.) To make alternative payment arrangements, please talk with the staff.
